The Bachelor of Education Program in English Language Teaching (ELT) provides a broad and in-depth study of English as well as teaching English as a foreign and second language. The program is designed to prepare students to become effective English language teachers, translators, interpreters as well as provides them with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a graduate degree program in ELT, TESOL, TEFL or in education.
Program Mission
To provide students with the knowledge and skills for understanding nuances of the English language and using it effectively in professional contexts. To equip students with the necessary tools to be effective teachers and educators including how to use state of the art technology, apply research methods, critical analysis, and advanced pedagogical methods and assessments.
Admission Requirements
Applicant must be proficient in the English language, and is considered to meet the admission requirements if he/she:
- Is a graduate of private or international schools (IGCSE, American Diploma, Canadian Diploma, International Baccalaureate…) where the teaching language is English and has obtained an average of (90%) or higher.
- Has achieved success in the High School Diploma or its equivalent and has obtained an average of (5.5) or higher in the IELTS.
In the event that the above admission requirements are not met, the applicant must take an English language placement test. The test grade will determine if the applicant is eligible to:
- Enter into or continue with their studies in an academic program.
- Be enrolled in the English language I foundation course.
- Be enrolled in the English language II foundation course.
While studying the Foundation English language course, the applicant is allowed to register in some courses, provided that the total number of credit hours during the semester does not exceed 12 credit hours.

Executive Diploma of Advanced Studies in Conflict and Fragility Management
Motivated by situations of protracted crisis and complex emergencies around the world, the DPP-CFM aims to prepare participants to address the challenges of conflict and fragility management and help shape sound development policies which translate into effective and sustainable operational practices. The programme’s main objective is to develop skills for a systematic consideration of the context, including the institutional framework and the critical time- related perspectives (the short, medium and long-term effects of any intervention). The proposed curriculum also allows participants to make a better connection between global issues and local specificities, thus improving the effectiveness of their practices.
By conducting analyses related to the identification, implementation, financial & operational monitoring and evaluation phases of projects and programmes in fragile and conflict-affected settings, the DPP-CFM also focuses on methods to analyze contexts and stakeholders at the international level (e.g. global challenges, policies of international organizations), at the national level (e.g. sectorial public policies, legislative and administrative framework) and at the sub-state, municipal and local levels (e.g. decentralization policies, urban safety initiatives, community-led peacebuilding, and grass-roots mobilization). It also seeks to enhance the professional effectiveness of each participant by requiring them to undertake a job-related professional thesis.
The content is tailored to training needs of development actors working in fragile and conflict- affected situations with the support of the Geneva Graduate Institute’s Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP) and the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Doha.

The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies' Comparative Literature Program is a regional first, intending to interact with the emerging concepts of New Comparative Literature and significant recent debates in the discipline. The Program focuses on recent critical reflections on the discipline's historical formations, as well as the methodological problems of working across languages and cultures, in this regard. This method incorporates knowledge and viewpoints from non-European literary, aesthetic, and critical traditions.
The Program aims to train a new generation of comparative literature scholars, who will be able to situate themselves in the discipline as a new type of Arabist and comparative literary theorist, thanks to its critical humanist and interdisciplinary focus, as well as its uniquely designed core and elective courses.
The course offerings include advanced-level courses that provide instruction in comparative literary theories and interpretive reading modes, as well as novel modalities for transcending language, cultural, literary, and historical boundaries. They also hope to reframe current arguments by introducing particularly developed courses on Arabic literature as a model for non-European literature methods. The Institute's emphasis on inter-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary methods is also considered in the program. The Journalism MA program takes two academic years to complete and has a total of 42 credit hours. Students enroll in a total of nine 3-credit Journalism program courses (for a total of 27 credit hours). These nine Journalism courses contain seven core program courses and two program elective courses, as listed below. Students must also enroll in three 3-credit extra-disciplinary courses (for a total of 9 credit hours) and either a 6-credit MA thesis or a 6-credit journalism capstone project in addition to these nine Journalism courses. In addition, students must perform a 70-hour non-credit summer internship with a media institution in Qatar. Most of our students do their internship at Al-Jazeera, which is located near the Doha Institute, but students who want to focus on other types of news creation have various possibilities. During the summer between the first and second years of the program, students perform an internship.
